Frequently Asked Questions
Can we spend P&C money on XYZ?
The P&C is under strict legislative requirements that any money spent is not to benefit an individual (Staff or Student) or “classroom”. All money spent is for the benefit of the entire school or to cover administrative costs such as the costs to run this website.
Does a school need a P&C?
No, but public schools are not provided with sufficient funds to provide all services that our parents and carers have come to expect. The P&C is an official association that transparently manages funds to provide resources, facilities and amenities for our school. The P&C also provides a formal means for cooperation between parents, teachers, students and members of the general community.
Can I run an event without the P&C?
Yes, but the P&C ensures the event is covered by insurance, all decisions have consensus and all funds are managed appropriately. The P&C can also gain any necessary licenses for an event such as allowing the sale of alcohol for parent events or running official raffles with prizes.
Can I join the P&C?
Yes, anyone can. Follow the Join the P&C button at the top of this page.
When does the P&C hold its AGM?
Our AGM is held near the beginning of Term 1 each year. Your membership is valid until the next AGM.
If I am a P&C member, do I need to attend meetings?
No attendance is necessary. But if you want to add your voice then please consider attending, online or in person.
Can I volunteer for a P&C event or initiative without being a member?
Yes, but it is preferred that you become a member. Depending on the responsibility of your role, you may be requested to become a member.
Do we need Working with Children Checks (WWCC)?
We follow the WA Government factsheet here.
A WWCC is not required if you are a parent (that includes stepparent, de facto partner, prospective adoptive parent, and a person who has legal responsibility for the long term or day to day care and welfare and development of the child). If a grandparent, sibling, or any other relative (who does not have legal responsibility) is volunteering in child-related work, they must apply for a WWCC.
What about politics?
We don’t believe our P&C is political. There is no ‘purple circle’ and everyone has a voice. Sometimes meetings can be a little formal but this is to ensure due process is followed and that all voices are heard.
